Paperbacks!

11/1/2022

Paperbacks are available!

I may have these available for a limited time since the back end between my distributors and the sellers seems to have cleared up. I'll have more news on that, but I'm going to use this chance to try out more of Amazons marketing and advertising resources.

Paperbacks

10/26/2022

It took a bit of doing and undoing, but for the sake of just getting the story into people's hand without outside intervention, I took the easy route.

And was pleasantly surprised. My memory of Amazon's publishing system isn't a fond one, but when I got back behind the secnes and started looking around, everything else fell into place. They don't force the internal material anymore. Formatting and other stuff can be kept in the hands of the author (ISBN placement is typical, you can't touch that of all things, but who does I suppose).

So those links are coming. Without books sitting in a warehouse and Amazons POD system, I suppose I should be glad. It was a last ditch effort. Next I need to figure out the Amazon Author Central Stuff. It looked straight forward until I actually started working on it. God forbid you wrote a children's book with pictures, because you can't advertise the art.

I'll set up links to the paperbacks soon.

I'll be shorter in the delays.

A frustrating update

10/8/2022

Third Party Sellers.

They brought everything to a screeching halt.

Between the Wires jumped from 30.00 hardcover to 40.00, and my best guess is that third party sellers (which seem to have my book in stock) bought out what was up there, or reserved it at least, and that has jacked the price up on my hardcover.

I'm working on a way around this, which might require me use some kind of free, cookie-cutter publishing service (Like Amazons) just to get the book available again. Believe me, these free publication services get disgusting, with interior designs by people who don't understand how distracting their idea of what a book's interior actually is.

I'm really hoping I'm wrong, and that Amazon gave up on that senseless, thoughtless, forced interior formatting stuff. (And as I remember it, the exterior formatting wasn't very good either). It's been a few years, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I've set aside the social media stuff to deal with this for now.

Smaller updates: I need to get the Copyright registration numbers up, so expect those in the next few days, I have a couple of back end issues on the site I want to solve (my current service seems to have slowed down dramatically in the last year), and than I need to do some more optimization across Social Media before i start pushing posts and marketing the books again.

We'll be back soon.

The Update on SEO and Selling Books

9/19/2022

I can give a brief update on the two thrusts through the SEO system. One: The Search Engines have finally caught up with what's happening on this site. I'm seeing a few pages pop up depending on particular keywords, and finally the site front page (This one) is showing up first. To sum it up, the name W.M. DeSilva is finally hitting the right notes with the systems, across websites. It doesn't meant that the name is coming up when someone types in something too simple (Such as books, or Author), but I have a few ideas about that I want to try in the future.

Two: I think the conventional thinking about Youtube's algorithm is wrong, Not only am I not seeing more concerning impressions on videos after following the strict formula everyone talks about, but I've ventured off on the side to try and massage the system into at least putting the videos in recommended feeds. I'll probably continue working this until October, but unless something drastic happens, I think my energy is better spent somewhere else. To be honest, making and uploading videos at the pace the algorithm likes is a part time job, and has distracted from every other part of life. It was worth the effort to find out first hand, but I can't recommend Youtube or Rumble, and probably not any other video site as an author looking for an avenue to sell books.

That's it. I just wanted to give any future readers who are here simply for that side of my endeavors an update. Hopefully next time We're here I'll have some other attempts set up.

(Side note worth putting here instead of wasting another post: I'll be playing around with Amazon's Ad system again, I'm hoping to do a complete write up on that when the times comes.

Tools for Writing: wilt the Flower

9/16/2022

I put out some audio from a piece of paper I wrote when I was mentally laying out the tools that I had identified, this one is called Wilting the Flower. Without recounting everything I said, you're devolving a character by taking things away from them one at a time, probably in moments where they need them. It seems simple and obvious, but turning it over in my head again, it isn't.

If you have a character, say a police officer, and through the events of the story they loose their weapons, then their badge (Perhaps they are placed on leave for some infraction), then their partner, and then whatever else the story needs to take from them in to break the character down.

If that character now has conviction that force them to continue their journey, that can show determination.

If losing those things puts them into a corner they can't escape, perhaps they become emotional.

Take this rule and only apply it one act, say the first. what does the character do for the rest of the story? even if they got those things back? suddenly they're very protecting of what they have.

But the point of the rule I may have been trying to get to all those years ago might not have been written down with the rule itself, but what comes right after. It sets up the character to react, or respond. Emotional or clinical.

This is a great chance to build up your character, or change them for the rest of the story. But since we are writers, we torture our character down to get the reaction out of them we need.

Wilting the Flower is a tool that can be used in however many ways you can apply it, but what I failed to write down, and later realize when I did the audio, was the end point. the character is going to change because of it (If you don't down right kill them).

I'm kicking myself for not remembering the point I was trying to get to, but it has been over a decade.
Below, I went through that paper, but without realizing the point. If you have thoughts, add them in the comment down there.
